Museum of Sydney

I rushed to finish the charcoal image at the museum and it didn't show the two perspectives clearly, they merged and appeared as one :S For the homework sketch from memory, I made it more obvious as to the different perspectives, the viewing box vs the stairs.

i returned to charcoal for these two as it helped get a richer range of textures on the page.

Watercolours were fun to use and they were also muccchhh easier to use - I had more freedom with how i painted and it also minimised error :D

It was nice to play with different layers and transparency ( especially in the pegs ...note: not sure why image wants to load upside down) the use of colour in the water colour painings were also more expressive and playful as opposed to the charcoal.

The first workshop was interesting an dchallenging, as it wasn;t that wasy to just let go and stard drawing. especially when we weren't drawing the object itself but its 'motion' :S ... lol .. but we got some pretty kool drawings and methods out of it.

The most entertaining was drawing withou tlooking at the page :p

I was at a loss for what to do with the buildings but by using different coloured charcoal and pastels and mixing the metods from the wokrshop I managed to get a nice blend of lines and textures.

Tunnel :D :D

My tunnel book was based on the interior space and logo of Thaina Box on Church street parramatta. The logo corresponds with my chosen colour scheme (blue and orange) although the interiors almost have nothing to do with them.

The menue and casual section of the resteraunt vaguely follow the blu-orange theme but the formal half changes. This part is upstairs and towards the back, and includes black walls with thin gold patterns. The furniture is a dark rich wood with dark red leather chairs. One wall is a mirror covered with bamboo sticks to give the illusion of a larger space as the resteraunt in extremely thin and long.

My tunnel is split into to halves. The smaller half is just a colour scheme, while the second larger half includes a slightly abstracted application of the scheme reflecting the interior space.

Luis Barragan Face Map

In this face map I tried to map Logic (blue) and Crativity (orange).
Since Barragan was an engineer before he was an architect, I decided to map his thoughts and how he expresses himself.

His mind is predominantly that of an engineer (hence the blue) and the highest concentration of blue is near his brain. His clothing and eyes are orange, as his clothing is an expression of his creativity and his eyes see things creatively. His lips are both blue and orange as they evenly express his ideas. his glasses and the rest of the space around him are grey as they frame his view of the world and his surrounding are grey as they are yet to expreience and be formed into his works.

I choose Luis Barragab's House and studio for my collage. I wanted to create somethign simple and effective to emphasise his sue of colour. For the plan (above) I made use of stepping stones to work my way through the rooms. My use of colour was simple and consistent with my choice of blue and orange. The stepping stones came from the idea of mosaic and peak in the garden - leading all focus to the outdoors.

For the cross section below I painted wach room rather than fill it in with paint or photoshop again to allude to the texture of the walls; then added greyscale/low saturated images ( furniture and empty frames) to exaggerate and further solidify that colour. I finally mirrored a tree to frame the cross section.

Natural Colour 2: Strawberry Poison Dart Frog

This random frog lol was an interesting combination of an orange red and a dark navy blue. A simple and striking combination of colour not so commonly found in our natural surroundings.

The image above represents the colout proprions of the Frog while the image below is another similar adaptation to a view of Barragan's house and studio.

Natural Colour 1: Strelitzia

I chose the Strelitzia due to its natural use of colour the bright yellow and orange in the flower itself with the blue, green and purple present in the stem. A perfect example of complimentary colour in nature.

I represented the colour proportion in the image above, relating it to a sunset. Both the natural landscape and the flower can be seen in the above image (hopefully :P)

Colour Wheels

These are both my colour wheel and tonal variation of Blue. not an overly complicated exercise apart form trying to mix purple !!!!!! lol

Applied Colour Scheme

This is Gustavo R. Cristo House by Luis Barragan. Barragan's works appealed to me due to their simplicity and unique use of colour. Barragan employed a warm form of minimalism in his works; simple, not overly complicated and used solid colour against traditional white walls and blue and green natural surroundings.

I applied my colour scheme of Blue with its complimentary colour orange. I kept the colours simple and flat with a slight allusion to the texture of the rendered walls and the faults present in them. This rendering was aided by the idea of receeding colours used in the first activity.

Mountains

This is the final product of our mountain exercise in week one :D I Chose the colour blue and made two due to the uneven number of group members. The textures vary due to the different paints used - mine were done with acrylics ( haven't purchased gouache yet), so i had a more solid tonal variation. I like the contrast and division of colour; the warmth of red and the cool blues mix nicely towards the bottom, while the purples dominate the middle and upper layers.

Animation :)

In my animation, I intend to show how light can change a space, as opposed to simply displaying different ‘types’ of spaces. I chose to keep the same view and just play with the beams throughout the day. From the first cold rays – to the strong warm rays of the afternoon to the coloured cool rays of the evening. I chose to work on black paper as opposed to white to emphasise/exaggerate the colours and “light”. These are the key frames I was working with.

Possible p.o.v. for Animation

These were some of the views I was considering for my animation. The first ons is of the staircase as they received the most light; but I soon decided against it as it didn’t provide me with enough ‘flat surface’ to play with the light’s orientation throughout the day. The second of these is of the studio or work space on the 5th floor. I considered it due to it’s orientation (opposite the glass wall or windows), but I realised the sun didn’t exactly shine through them :(
That’s when I decided to consider my final view or work space, which was the top floor looking at an angle towards the dividing wall and the windows. This perspective allowed me to show the sun’s rays as they beamed through the windows opposite the glass wall, even though they(windows) are not in view, and it also provied enough flat surfaces to show the light’s progression throughout the day.

Architecture In Motion - Task 1 (Wk02)

Architecture is based around the inspired and effective division or formation of a given space(s). As new materials and technologies became available, architecture has developed and adapted to the new possibilities. One of the key features of modern architecture is the constant use of glass and the development of wider spaces, or providing the illusion of open spaces which make the use of natural light. With the development of dynamic architecture the building can actively change it’s orientation to make the most of it’s surroundings and latural light. Light allows us to percieve our surroundings, without which we would have a different or little unsterstanding of the spaces around us. It also helps create and change moods within these spaces, to relax or intrigue us, or to create illusions of non existant spaces.
